“우리가 마주한 현실은 기억과 감각, 관계와 환경 속에서 각기 다른 모습으로 남는다. 지나간 시간은 기억 속에서 재구성되고, 익숙한 이미지나 사건 역시 기록되고 상상되는 동안 처음과는 다른 의미를 갖는다. <Render-ing>은 이처럼 주어진 것이 선택과 누락, 반복과 변형을 거치며 달리 나타나는 방식에 주목한다. 여기서 렌더링은 디지털 이미지를 만들어내는 기술적 과정에만 머물지 않는다.
여섯 명의 작가에게 기억과 관계, 환경, 불안과 그리움, 이미지와 사건은 저마다 다른 방식으로 다뤄지고, 그 과정에서 어떤 것은 선명해지는 반면 어떤 것은 희미해지거나 누락되며 사진, 회화, 조각, 설치와 움직임으로 드러난다. 따라서 전시는 하나의 현실에 대한 여섯 가지 해석이라기보다, 현실이 작업으로 나타나기까지의 여러 경로, 즉, 렌더링의 결과이다. 현실은 사라지는 것이 아니라, 계속해서 다른 모습으로 렌더링되고 있는지도 모른다.
The reality we encounter remains with us in different forms through memory, perception, relationships, and environment. The past is reconstructed through memory, while familiar images and events acquire meanings different from their original ones as they are recorded, imagined, and recalled. 〈Render-ing〉 focuses on the ways in which what is given comes to appear otherwise through processes of selection and omission, repetition and transformation. Here, rendering is not limited to the technical process of producing a digital image.
For the six artists, memory and relationships, environment, anxiety and longing, images and events are each approached in different ways. In this process, some elements become more distinct, while others fade, disappear, or are left out, eventually taking form through photography, painting, sculpture, installation, and movement. The exhibition is therefore less a collection of six interpretations of a single reality than a tracing of the multiple paths through which reality becomes form—in other words, the results of rendering. Reality may not disappear at all; it may simply continue to be rendered into different forms.”
